21/03/2012VIM - Vietnamese Institute for Musicology choose Etere to Upgrade its Archiving system
Etere MERP replaces of an old system which never satisfied the VIM needs
The Vietnamese Institute for Musicology (VIM) is the official “heart” of the Vietnam traditional music; it was established in 1950 with the former name of Musicology Division of the Culture and Arts Bureau. The organization have officially moved in 2007 its headquarters to the new urban area where VIM researchers are capable to work in a modern building in which there are enough divisions such as Studio, filming division of performance, the Showroom of Vietnamese Traditional Musical Instruments, and the division of Databank on Folk Music and Traditional Performing Arts of Vietnam, etc. The overall challenge of the project was to manage the big and precious musical heritage present in the VIM archive which is composed from about 10’000 hours of video (225TB), 15’000 hours of audio (14TB) from digital to old analog tapes and disks and document and pictures (10TB). VIM’s primary need consisted in digitizing its entire video/audio/document library and subsequently storing it into a digital archive system that will provide future retrieval either just for viewing, for repeat transmission or editing. Moreover, it’s worthy mentioning that the Etere’s solution counts with a Vietnamese GUI for allowing an easy management even by inexpert users. Etere has been able to effectively manage the VIM archive making use of the best solutions available on the market, implementing a distributed and integrated archive which tightly combines powerful servers with an easy to use browser interface. Although the requested system surely represents a big jump for the institute, Etere has completely supported the content migration to a digital environment with the most of efficiency, flexibility, scalability, workflow reliability and accuracy. The core of the system is Etere MERP, a system able to manage all the activities, from content ingest and transcoding to the organization of the required worksheets where management costs are displayed. Moreover, the system manages the complex permission structure to display the content to million of users with the maximum of reliability and accuracy.
The MERP approach implemented by Etere will deliver a complete and stable product able to take care of the Vietnamese history archive.
