Etere joins the SRT Alliance, an open-source initiative dedicated to overcoming the challenges of low-latency video streaming.

Etere joins the SRT Alliance, an open-source initiative dedicated to overcoming the challenges of low-latency video streaming. As part of Etere’s overall strategy to participate in collaborative developments with SRT protocol, Etere is now integrated with SRT capabilities to deliver secure, high quality and low latency videos across the internet.

Not only that, Etere users have unlimited SRT inputs and outputs without the need for external add ons. This is provided as a free upgrade for all Etere users. SRT protocol is now available in all Etere solutions and across workflows including playout, master control, ingest, studio play and scheduled ingest.

The SRT Alliance, founded by Haivision in April 2017, already has more than 350 members. Its mission is to overcome the challenges of low-latency live streaming by supporting the collaborative development of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Open Source, the fastest growing open source streaming project. SRT is a free open source video transport protocol and technology stack originally developed and pioneered by Haivision that enables the delivery of high-quality and secure, low-latency video across the public internet. SRT has multiple benefits including:

Excellent quality: Prevents jitter, packet loss and bandwidth fluctuation for the best viewing experience
Low latency: Option to deliver low latency video in the face of network challenges
Secure streams: End-to-end 128/256 bit AES encryption to secure streams from contribution to distribution
Open source: Open source SRT is available for any developer

“Etere is constantly looking at and understanding solutions to help our users address challenges and prepare for the future. We share the vision of SRT Alliance to contribute in the adoption of secure and high-quality open source video transport protocol and we are proud to be a member of the SRT Alliance,” said Fabio Gattari, Director of Etere.

“With the SRT Alliance, Etere is joining an industry movement to improve the way the world streams video,” said Jesús (Suso) Carrillo, Director SRT Alliance, Haivision. “We’re pleased to see the SRT protocol being actively implemented by some of the world’s biggest broadcast and enterprise streaming workflows as its adoption and industry-wide recognition continues to grow, becoming the defacto standard for low latency internet streaming.”

About the SRT Open Source Project & SRT Alliance
SRT is an open source video transport protocol and technology stack, developed and pioneered by Haivision, that optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure streams and easy firewall traversal, bringing the best quality live video over the worst networks. The SRT Open Source Project, supported by the SRT Alliance, is a collaborative community of industry leaders and developers striving to achieve lower latency internet video transport by continuously improving open-source SRT.
